What is the difference between Hakko FX-971, FX-972 and FX-973 Soldering Stations?

The Hakko FX-971, FX-972 and FX-973 are soldering stations from the latest series of next-generation soldering stations by HAKKO.

  • FX-971: 100W, single port soldering station. Compatible with 4 handpieces: standard, standard N2, micro, micro N2.
  • FX-972: 200W, dual port soldering station. Compatible with 8 handpieces: standard, standard N2, micro, micro N2, hot tweezers, micro hot tweezers, heavy duty, heavy duty N2.
  • FX-973: 400W, triple port soldering station. Compatible with 9 handpieces: standard, standard N2, micro, micro N2, hot tweezers, micro hot tweezers, heavy duty, heavy duty N2 and FR-4103 desoldering gun.

What is the difference between induction heating and standard heating soldering station?

The Hakko FX-100 IH Soldering Station uses advanced Induction Heating (IH) technology rather than standard resistive wire coils. It creates a high-frequency magnetic field to generate stable heat inside the tip alloy itself. Because the station naturally maintains a constant temperature based on fixed tip Curie points, it reacts instantly to micro-soldering loads without any manual adjustment lag. This design is highly recommended for highly sensitive electronic components where over-shooting temperatures can damage circuit architectures.
